I come from a family of holocaust survivors. My family has always carried the part of our family, and everyone else, who had not survived the holocaust. In my family we use that weight to create a world in which genocide is unimaginable. I have grown up believing and now more then ever, that as people, and for me, as Jewish people especially, we have a responsibility to be the front guard of any watch for Genocide, or the steps that lead to it. To those ends I am creating a space to learn about and research the steps that lead to genocide, and then to participate in a collective ‘Protectors Creed.’ A living, participatory act of creation, invoking our accountability to protect human life above all else.
In 1996 Gregory Stanton, the president of Genocide Watch, presented a briefing paper called The 8 Stages of Genocide at the United States Department of State. In it he suggested that genocide develops in eight stages that are "predictable but not inexorable"
